George Nathaniel Waitt, Jr. is the son of Mary Albertine Jones , a Burwell student. His sister, Carrie Waitt and her husband Dr. John Sanford Spurgeon purchased the Burwell School in 1895, and the property remained in family hands until 1965 when it was sold to the Historic Hillsborough Commision [1].

Story

George Nathaniel Waitt, Jr. is the son of George Nathaniel Waitt and Mary Albertine Jones , a Burwell student. He is the brother of Carrie Waitt. Carrie Waitt married Dr. John Sanford Spurgeon, a local Hillsborough dentist. The Spurgeons purchased the Burwell School in 1895, and the property remained in family hands until 1965 when it was sold to the Historic Hillsborough Commision. The garden adjoining the Burwell School is named in honor of Carrie Waitt, the daughter of a former Burwell student.

George Nathaniel Waitt, Jr. is buried in Hillsborough Town Cemetery along with his parents, grandparents, uncle, and sister [1].
