George Nathaniel Waitt married Mary Albertine Jones , a Burwell student and his daughter, Carrie Waitt and her husband Dr. John Sanford Spurgeon, purchased the Burwell School in 1895 and the property remained in family hands until 1965 when it was sold to the Historic Hillsborough Commision [1].

Story

George Nathaniel Waitt married Mary Albertine Jones  and had two children: George, Nathaniel Waitt, Jr. and Carrie Waitt. His daughter, Carrie Waitt married Dr.John Sanford Spurgeon, a local Hillsborough dentist. The Spurgeons purchased the Burwell School in 1895, and the property remained in family hands until 1965 when it was sold to the Historic Hillsborough Commision. The garden adjoining the Burwell School is named in honor of Carrie Waitt, the daughter of a former Burwell student.

George Nathaniel Waitt is buried in Hillsborough Town Cemetery along with his wife, children, and in-laws [1].
