Story

Updated by a BSHS Researcher in 2018:

It is not clear to this researcher what Henry's middle name was. Mary Claire Engstrom says it was Young. There are several Henry Young Webbs and none of them appear to be this Henry Webb so I think she was mistaken. In Our Webb Kin of Dixie he is listed twice as only Henry. According to Mary Claire Engstrom, Henry “removed to Alabama with the intention of becoming a planter, but returned to Hillsborough and took a course of medical training with his father before returning to Alabama,,,” to practice medicine, first in Greene County and then possibly in Gadsden in Etowah County.

Henry died in 1878 in Alabama. Several sources say he died in Gadsden but this researcher has not found documentation of that fact. It is noteworthy however, that his daughter Annie was living in Gadsden at the time of his death.

Of note: In the 1870 census, Henry is enumerated in Demopolis, Marengo County AL living with several Strudwicks, including E Strudwick who this researcher believes is Henry’s sister Elizabeth Webb (1812-1894) who married Dr. William Francis Strudwick (1810-1851).
