« return to database listRansom Sanders was married first to Jemima Jones and they had a daughter Polly Ann Sanders (1825-1847). Jemima died in 1834 and in 1835 Ransom married Sarah Campbell. Among their children were Bettie and Laura who attended the Burwell School.
Ransom Sanders, a planter and descendant of early 18th century settlers in what became Johnston County, and his second wife, Sarah Campbell had two daughters: Sarah Elizabeth Sanders and Lauretta Winifred Sanders , both Burwell School students. Ransom Sanders was the son of Reuben Sanders, and the grandson of Hardy Sanders. Sarah Campbell was the daughter of James Campbell.
According to a comment posted to Ransom Sander's entry on Find A Grave, "Ransom had built quite an estate which passed to his second wife Sarah [Campbell Sanders, later Miller]...The records of many of the transactions of slaves and farm matters carried on by Sarah...may be viewed, online, at the Johnston County Heritage Center website." Ransom Sanders was born on February 1, 1797. He died on August 24, 1844, and was buried in Ransom Sanders Cemetery.
