« return to database listCatharine McDiarmid of Cumberland County, whose name appears in the Burwell School Catalogue of 1848-51 [1], was the daughter of Daniel McDiarmid, a lawyer, planter, and Patron of the School [2].
Catharine attended the Burwell School from 1848-51 and married Henry Clay Robinson, son of Eliza Pearce and Benjamin Robinson, who moved to Fayetteville in 1805 from VT. Henry Clay Robinson was the grandson of Anne McNeill and Angus McDiarmid, who emigrated from Edinburgh, Scotland in 1793.
In the United States Census of 1860 [3], Catharine and Henry Clay Robinson were listed with three children: Eliza Wright Robinson, Lucy Robinson, and Henry McDiarmid Robinson. By 1870 Catharine, presumably a widow, and her children lived with her parents.
She died in 1874, a few days after the death of her daughter, Eliza Wright Robinson. Catharine and Eliza Wright Robinson are buried at the Cross Creek Cemetery. Catharine's only son, Henry McDiarmid Robinson married Mary Faison Hill on February 24, 1886, and left many decendents [2].
Catharine McDiarmid was born on August 26, 1836. She died on July 27, 1874, and was buried in Cross Creek Cemetery in Cumberland County, NC.
