Susan Moseley, mother of Burwell Student Mary Amelia Faison  was born January 13, 1799 and died June 1, 1860. She is buried at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Sampson County in grave site 32.

Susan’s father Mathew Moseley was a captain in the Virginia Militia and a hero during the Revolutionary War. He settled in the Lenoir (later called La Grange), area of North Carolina in 1777. The Norfolk and Southern Railroad brought the railroad to Lenoir in 1858, making it one of the most prosperous endeavors during period of the period in North Carolina.
