« return to database listCharles Cooley was a reverend from Connecticut. He moved to North Carolina in 1815. He was a minister first in the Methodist Episcopal Church and then in the Methodist Protestant Church.
Charles Cooley married Ann Eliza Chapman with whom he had a large family of at least four daughters and three sons. He was a Methodist lay minister with no settled income. As a result, he and his family were once evicted from their house in the southeastern quadrant of Hillsborough for not paying rent. From 1877 to 1878 he served one term as mayor of Hillsborough.
Charles Loveland Cooley was born on June 28, 1794. He died on November 7, 1866, and was buried in Old Town Cemetery in Hillsborough, NC. The Hillsborough Recorder announced Charles Loveland Cooley's death on November 14, 1866 [1].
