Tarmesia M. Cooley was born on February 11, 1827. She died on October 26, 1899, and was buried in Old Town Cemetery in Hillsborough, NC. Tarmesia and her husband Daniel D. Phillips are buried at an imposing obelisk near the center of the Daniel D. Phillips plot. Inscriptions on the Phillipses' tombs make it clear that the Phillips family was ardently Baptist [1].
