Story

Nannie Taylor Speed's mother, Frances Young, was related to President James Madison, John Penn, and President Zachary Taylor. It is likely that after Frances Young's death on March 22, 1851, Nannie was sent to Burwell School. Nannie was named for her grandmother, Ann Taylor Young.

Nannie's father, Edward Speed, was related to English historian John Speed (1552-1629); Dr. John Speed (1595-1640) educated at St. John's College, Oxford; James Speed (1679-1719) who emigrated to America in 1695; and Judge John Speed (1714-1785) of the 15th Virginia Regiment, founder of the Episcopal Church in Virginia [1].

Nannie Taylor Speed died in 1909 and was buried in Addison Mangum Family Cemetery in Mangum Township at Bahama Road (SR 1607) one mile east of Lake Michie Bridge and about 1200 ft north of Ellis Chapel Road (SR 1616) [2].
