At a Glance

Julia Dorroh Tallman is the daughter of Burwell School Student Anne Huske Webb .

Story

Although she was born to Anne Webb Tallman, James Tallman’s second wife, Julia was named after her father’s first wife, Julia Ann Dorroh. She married James Franklin Woodliff on 5 Jan 1882, who is descended from the Woodliff family who came over on the Mayflower. The Woodliffs founded Forrest Cemetery in Gadsden so it’s strange that her mother, Anne Webb Tallman and her father, Judge James A. Tallman, are buried there in unmarked graves and so presumably is Julia. Julia’s sister, Mar-garet (Maggie) T. Tallman’s grave is marked as is that of Julia’s daughter Maggie Tallman Woodliff who died at age 1. Some of the descendants of folks in Etowah County, including the Woodliffs, do a program called “A Walk Through Time” each year at Forrest Cemetery in Gadsden. They re-enact some of the history of Gadsden and its inhabitants.
