James A. Tallman was the husband of Burwell School Student, Anne Huske Webb .

Story

James had a varied background and was an active community member. His bio appears in Northern Alabama: Historical and Biographical, by Henry McCalley. He was a Mason and a Presbyterian. His occupations included Printer; store clerk; salesman and bookkeeper in mercantile business; merchant; Postmaster at Greensboro, AL (appointed by President Jeffer-son Davis, CSA); hotelier; elected tax assessor; and Probate Judge of Etowah County, AL.

James's first marriage was to Julia A. Dorroh(1826-1855), daughter of James and Malinda (Wright) Dorroh. She died in 1856, leaving 3 children: Elizabeth (b 1844), Timothy T. (v 1850) and Harriet W (Mrs. Samuel R Smith of Montecello, GA (b 1854). A daughter, Elvira Jane was born 1846 and died 1847.

On 16 February 1857 he married Annie H. Webb. They had two children, the first of which was named for his deceased first wife.

James died 7 January 1905 and was buried in an unmarked grave in Forrest Cemetery, Gadsden, Etowah, AL. He is supposed to be in Section 2, Block 1 which is where his daughter Margaret (Maggie) is in a marked grave.
