Samuel Edward Chapman (1807-1862) and Elizabeth  "Eliza"  Snead were the parents of two daughters Catharine  "Kate"  Chapman (1834-1890) and Mary Snead Chapman (1835-1882) both of whom were students at the Burwell School. Samuel Edward Chapman attended school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and at the University of N.Y, where he received his M.D. degree. He was a physician in New Bern, Craven County, NC. He died May 31, 1862 in Alamance County, NC, and according to Find-A-Grave his body was lost or destroyed.

Samuel Edward Chapman's parents were Samuel Chapman (died March 1807) and Catharine  "Kitty"  Backhouse (b. ?- d. ?). Catharine  "Kitty"  Backhouse was the second wife of Samuel Chapman [1].
