William Hunter was a doctor of Halifax County, NC. He married Jane Bell as his second wife. He had children by his previous marriage.

Story

Shortly following his marriage to Jane in 1861, Dr. William F. Hunter joined the medical corps of the Confederate army. After the American Civil War had ended and Dr. Hunter had returned home, his failing health and despondency over the death of two sons (by his former marriage) in the defense of Fort Fisher left him unable to magnage the plantation. This left Jane to manage it.
