Story

Margaret Murchison was the daughter of Catherine D. Wright and Duncan Murchison, a wealthy cotten manufacturer in Cumberland County. In the United States Census of 1850 [1], the Murchisons were listed with their children, among them, Catherine A. Murchison  and Margaret Murchison. Both sisters are recoreded as having attened the Burwell School in its closing year, 1857 [2].
