Mary Virginia Lindsay of Greensboro was the daughter of Jeduthun Harper Lindsay who was an active, substantial, and prominent citizen of 19th century Greensboro [1].
Mary Virginia Lindsay of Greensboro was born September 7, 1834 and was the daughter of Jeduthun Harper Lindsay and Martha Strange of Kentucky. Jeduthun Harper Lindsay was an active, substantial, and prominent citizen of Greensboro in the 19th century, according to the following reference from James Albright's Greensboro, 1808-1904: In 1829 his real estate was valued at $3,500; in 1839-1841 he served as a member of the Town Board; in 1840-1841 he was listed as owning a saw mill about where the Southern Railway crosses Lindsay Street; in 1856 he was a member of a committee to purchase a lot and erect a new courthouse; and in 1876 he was listed as a member of the first board of directors of the newly organzied National Bank of Greensboro.
Mary Virginia Lindsay appears in the Burwell School Catalogue of 1848-51 [2], but little else is known of her. She died at the age of eighteen on May 5, 1853 and is buried in the Lindsay plot in the First Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Greensboro, directly behind the Greensboro Museum [1].
