A Scotsman, Robert was twenty-nine when he married twenty-four year old Sally Attmore. His sister was a Burwell student and his brother Cicero Stephens Primrose married another Burwell student, Mary Chapman.

Story

Robert was an 1849 graduate of Princeton. He later studied medicine and became an MD. He and Sally had one son, Robert Stuart, Jr., who also became a physician. This son married and died without issue.
