Thomas Easley was the brother of Mary Bailey Easley  who attended the Burwell School.

Story

Thomas Easley was the only soldier from Halifax Co., VA to be killed in the Mexican War. His West Point classmate and fellow officer in Mexico was George Pickett, later of “Pickett’s Charge” during the Battle of Gettysburg. Pickett wrote an eloquent letter of condolence to the Easley’s after Thomas’s death.

Thomas’s remains were returned to his family and he is buried behind the family home, Oak Grove, in Cluster Springs, VA.
