« return to database listSally Faucette attended the Burwell School in the Spring of 1855. She would marry twice. Her first husband died in 1900, and Sally remarried 17 years later in 1917. She had no children [1] [2].
Sarah (Sally) Faucette was born in Alamance County on November 3, 1847. Her parents, Leonard H Faucette and Harriet M Faucette, married on September 7, 1841. She had two older sisters, Margaret and Mary A., and a brother A. G. Leonard Faucette, a school teacher, had $2500 in real property and $50 in personal property in 1860.
Sallly’s parents enrolled her in the Burwell School in the spring of 1855. Anna Robertson Burwell wrote in her diary on March 2, 1855, “About dusk Phi Williams and Sally Faucette came very unexpectedly, a fresh instance of the goodness of God to us in spite of our distrust.” (The Burwells needed more students). Sally remained in Hillsborough for only one term. In a letter to her daughter Fanny, Anna Burwell wrote on March 15, 1856, “You asked in one of your letters if Sally Faucette was here last session. No – she left the session before.”
Sally married George W. Summers (b. Aug. 12, 1827) on Nov. 30, 1869, in Alamance County. He was a farmer. After he died on April 30, 1900, she remained a widow until she married Robert J. Harrison on Dec. 15, 1917. Both of her husbands served as confederate soldiers during the Civil War. She had no children.
Sally died on July 29, 1919 in Boone Station, Alamance County, NC. She was buried on July 30 at Friedans Church Cemetery.
Sarah was called Sally or Sallie.
