Story
Thomas Samuel Ashe moved to Hale County in 1820 when his family relocated there. He returned to North Carolina for his education. He studied at at the Bingham School in Hillsborough and at the University of North Carolina. He moved to Anson County in 1836. He was the grandson of Governor Samuel Ashe. His aunts lived in Ashe House [1].

Thomas Samuel Ashe was born June of 1812, in Hawfields, NC. He died on February 4, 1887, and was buried in East View Cemetery, Wadesboro, NC [1].

- Politician. Thomas Samuel Ashe was a North Carolina Representative in 1842, a North Carolina Senator in 1854, a Confederate Representative, a Confederate Senator in 1864 (pardoned by President Andrew Johnson on October 14, 1865). He was the democratic candidate for North Carolina Governor in 1868 (defeated by William H. Holden), a United States Congressman in 1872 and 1874, and North Carolina Supreme Court Justice in 1878 (he died in office) [2].
