James L. Wortham was born c. 1797. James' date of birth is based on census records [1]. He died in 1866, and was buried in Dr. Wortham Cemetery at Berea in Walnut Grove, NC. The last census record that could be located for James L. Wortham was the United States Census of 1860 [4] when he was living with his son George Washington Wortham (age 36) and John P. Reed (age 45) [2]. The 1939 Historical Records Survey indicates one erect stone for James with his initials and no dates [3].

  • Rowena Washington (1807-1841), married from August 15, 1820 to January 1, 1841. Wm Blackwell was bondsman and A. Sneed was witness in the wedding of James L. Wortham and Rowena Washington [6].
