- Fairview in Milton, NC, between 1822 and 1824. Dr. Garland purchased Fairview, located on North High Street, from a Mr. Saunders, its builder. Mr Saunders then built Longwood as his new home. Only two years later, however, in 1824, the two men exchanged houses so that Mr. Saunders could entertain William H. Crawford of Georgia, a presidential candidate in 1824, in the town house. The Garlands made their home permanently at Longwood [1].
