Story

Maria L. Parks of Hillsborough was the daughter of James R. Parks and his wife, Maria A. Parks, also the parents of: David C. Parks, Charles M. Parks, William F. Parks, and Annie Parks.

Maria was born c. 1836 or 1837 and attended the Burwell School in the late 1840s and early 1850s as a day student. The Orange County Marriage Bonds list her marriage to Wilson B. Rowton on January 24, 1860. The ceremony was officiated by L.K. Willie and witnessed by George Laws.

Maria's brothers, David C. Parks and Charles M. Parks were involved in purchase and renovation of various Hillsborough houses, including the former Burwell School property in the 1870s [1].
