At a Glance

Ella Hammond was a student at the Burwell School in 1855 and 1856. Nothing further is known about her life. Mrs. Burwell, however, wrote of Ella in conjuction with the other Halifax, Virginia girls. It is possible then that Ella lived in Halifax County, Virginia or very near the North Carolina-Virginia Line [1].
