Ann Cobb and her sister Harriett were among the earliest students at the Nash & Kollock School [1].

Story

Ann Cobb was one of nine children of William Dunnell and Ann Collier Cobb of Indian Springs, Wayne Co, NC. Ann and her sister Harriett were among the first students at the Nash & Kollock School. According to a narrative written by Harriett after the Civil War, the sisters later attended St. Mary’s School in Raleigh as day students until 1864 when they left school to be with their parents as the Union Army approached the family home and farm [2] [3] [4].

Ann Whitfield Cobb was born on February 6, 1846, in Indian Fields, NC. She died on January 6, 1879, and was buried in Willow Dale Cemetery in Goldsboro, NC [5].
