« return to database listMyrtle Glenn married Julius Daniel (1856-1949). Their daughter Bessie was born 10 Oct 1901 and is shown as 8 years old on the 1910 US census. Bessie married Hugh Martin Beam (1890-1950). This is the “Bessie Beam” who wrote to Mary Claire Engstrom in 1965. Other children of Myrtle and Julius on that 1910 Census are Ehtel, age 5; Willis, age 4; and Jetter, age 2.
The 1940 census listing for Hugh Martin Beam shows his occupation as doctor, and others in the household include:
Bessie, age 38, and their children:
- Patsy M. Beam, age 9
- Hugh M.Beam, age 6
- Jule Alexander Beam, age 2 (later research showed that Julius Alexander “Sandy” Beam was born 20 April 1937 in Granville County and died 18 Feb 2011 at age 73 at Northern Hospital of Surry County. He had no issue, but his obituary lists four surviving nieces.
Bessie died on 31 Aug 1984 at the age of 82 and is buried at Burchwood Cemetery in Roxboro, Person County, NC.
