At a Glance

Cicero was a cousin or brother of Mary Huske Pearce. In the 1850 census, Cicero is listed as a son in the household of Jane and William Denslow Pearce, and is five years old. Other children in the household range in age from 14 to 23. William Denslow Pearce died in 1855. In the 1860 census, Cicero is at age 15 listed along with Mary, Oliver, and Eliza in the household of William Denslow Pearce’s younger brother John Wesley Pearce. It could be that Cicero is the son of John Wesley Pearce and his first wife Eliza who died in 1844; however, Cicero might have joined the John Wesley Pearce household of necessity after William Denslow Pearce died. Cicero at age 17 joined the CSA and served in the 12th cavalry. In 1867 he married Mary Frances “Fannie” McMillan (1848-1911) of Cumberland County, who is buried in Cross Creek Cemetery #2. Their son, Charles E. Pearce (1869-after 1900) married Amelia Shaw (1876-1932) of Mobile, Alabama. In 1910 she moved from Alabama to Fayetteville, NC, and is buried in Cross Creek Cemetery #3. They had three children, Eugene Pearce, Gaston Pearce, and Elizabeth Pearce Blake.
