Story
Henry Goodridge Speed was killed at Battle of Reams Station August 21, 1864 during the American Civil War. He was buried in unmarked grave at Blandford Confederate Cemetery Virginia Military Institute classmate Charles D Walker states:
"Speed, with his usual generosity, immediately gave his furlough [to a fellow soldier who had received word his wife was dying], and it was while serving in this comrade's stead that he met his death, thus crowning a life of honor and nobility with an act of which an angel might be proud.""
