• Minister, from 1865. Halbert G. Hill was pastor of the Hillsborough Presbyterian Church, 1865-1867. He was pastor Oxford Presbyterian Church, 1867-1868 and started the Henderson Presbyterian Church.

  He served as pastor of the Cross Creek- Fayetteville Presbyterian Church, 1868-1886. He served as supply pastor to the 2nd Presbyterian Church in Charleston SC in 1886.

  He was pastor of the Centre & Maxton Presbyterian Church, 1886-1924. He also sat on the Board of Trustees, Union Theological Seminary, 1878-1924 and founded the Presbyterian Orphanage at Barium Springs, 1891-1924.

  He served as Moderator of Fayetteville Presbytery and Commissioner to Presbyterian General Assembly.

• School Principal, from 1857. Halbert G. Hill served as principal of the Female Seminary in Clarksville VA, 1857-1861. He was also principal of Oxford Female Seminary and a counselor at Flora McDonald College.
• Chaplain. Halbert G. Hill served as chaplain for the Confederate States of America in the American Civil War. He served the 13th NC Volunteers at Gettysburg.
