Littleton's father was Eustace Hunt of Pittsylvania County, VA. His grandparents were Nathaniel and Mary Allen Hunt of Halifax County. Eustace Hunt served in the War of 1812. He owned nine plantations and promoted Danville, VA's first cotton mill. Littleton's mother was Eliza Glenn, who studied at Salem Academy NC.
